How did Romania became Communist?

A question from Yahoo! Answers:

How come that Romania became communist?

And who was CeauÅŸescu?

Romania became communist as a result of Soviet occupation at the end of World War II.

Nicolae Ceauşescu was a protege of Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, the leader of Romanian communists, who was essentially installed by the Red Army with personal approval by Stalin (Ceauşescu and Gheorghiu-Dej were cell mates in Târgu Jiu internment camp, where the Romanian government kept political prisoners during World War II). After the death of Gheorghiu-Dej in March 1965, Ceauşescu became the leader (officially known as “the first secretary”) of the Romanian Workers’ Party. Following Stalin’s footsteps, he used his leadership position in the party to get himself appointed to top government positions. In 1967, he became the president of the State Council; in 1974, the president of Romania.
